Continuing our Bunya Conversations

Strengthening Connections Across the Tasman

We recently welcomed Mita Harris from Tiakina Kauri, Biosecurity New Zealand and Candace Rameka, a Kauri Protection Officer with Northland Regional Council to share their inspiring journey of protecting Kauri trees in Aotearoa/New Zealand. Over their three-day visit, Mita and Candace generously shared strategies, lessons learned, and collaborative approaches to managing Kauri dieback.

Great connections and cultural conversations with the Kabi Kabi and Jinibara Indigenous Rangers.

Their visit included sessions with Indigenous Rangers, conservation organizations, community groups, government representatives, Elders, and Traditional Custodians. A highlight was their meeting with Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli, which underscored the importance of partnerships in protecting our local ecosystems.

Mita and Karen presented to Mayor Rosanna and Hetti from Sunshine Coast Council.

The hui and discussions were incredibly successful, fostering meaningful conversations and a shared commitment to work together to safeguard Bunya trees and reduce the spread of pathogens affecting vital flora communities, including those in the Glasshouse Mountains.

These exchanges remind us of the power of collaboration and shared knowledge to heal Country and protect our unique natural heritage.
