Bushfoods and Birds

Join Karen Shaw from Forest Heart ecoNursery Saturday 26 October to learn about edible native plants and how your 'fruitful' backyard can be a haven for birds, as part of the Sunshine Coast Council’s “Backyard Series”.

Cultivating a native garden offers more than just beautiful, well-adapted plants—it can also extend to your kitchen! Growing bushfoods is a fun, healthy, and convenient way to enjoy local flavors right from your backyard.

In this workshop, Karen will guide you through the process of creating a garden abundant with native bushfoods. She'll introduce some of her favorite plants, offering tips on how and when to harvest foliage, flowers, nuts, and fruits. Many native species also serve as excellent groundcovers, edging, and privacy screens, making them both functional and delicious. Plus, a thriving bushfood garden provides seasonal surpluses, benefiting both you and local wildlife.

Karen Shaw, co-founder of Forest Heart ecoNursery and Brush Turkey Enterprises, is passionate about native plants. With over 25 years of experience, Karen shares her knowledge and love for growing, using, and creating with native plants, from food to art. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from an expert and deepen your connection to native bushfoods!
